MERROW RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION  your community voice

Chairman's Notes

• We are now entering a period of significant change for the Association. Two members of the Executive Committee- Patrick Robson and Tricia Tappin- will be standing down at the AGM. One of our ward Councillors- Sheridan Westlake- is also standing down in May and Brian Cuff has retired as Community Safety Warden. No one is indispensible but each and every one of them is going to be greatly missed for the huge amount of work they have done so willingly on our behalf.

• I continue to bang on about communication- and I make no apology for doing so. We are now able to communicate more easily with our members by email so that those who wish to know more about what is going on may do so. If you did not receive the email “Reminder” for the AGM, then please click on this link to update your email address. (Please include your name and address.)

• The saga at the Merrow Depot continues. I am very disappointed at the lack of action by the authorities to deal with this ongoing problem which continues to disturb residents in the area, big time, and is likely to continue until June 2012 by which time Countryliner should vacate the site. I shall provide a full update at our AGM in April because various meetings on the Depot are taking place and questions are being asked of both the Borough and County Councils.

• Many of you have commented on the massively obtrusive green gas cabinet which has been plonked on the grass in front of the Golden Gates. This is classed as a permitted development under planning law and planning permission is not required. I am afraid we are stuck with it but I still intend to make a further fuss with the authorities.

• Planning issues continue to take up a great deal of our time. We will say much more on this at the AGM.

• I intend to raise postal services and deliveries at our AGM as I have the feeling that they are also going downhill fast so I will be interested in your views.

• Car parking at and around the BP Garage is causing real problems for many of you but I don’t know what we can do about it- not least because the M&S outlet is so popular-another item for the AGM.

• Concerns have been raised, quite recently, about the future of the old Church of England School in Down Road and we like many others are confused as to what the Diocesan Authorities really intend to do with it.

• The roads in Merrow are full of potholes and some of the drains in our roads are blocked and flooding takes place when we have a downpour. This is a statement of the obvious. These problems- and the accumulation of litter- are unlikely to be resolved in the short term notwithstanding the efforts of our Councillors, so hold onto your hats and prepare for a bumpy wet ride.
